Pornhub has announced it will allow UK users to access its content through Apple’s new device-based age verification system. This marks a shift after blocking new UK users in February due to stricter regulations. The move aims to improve security and compliance.
Pornhub has announced it will now permit UK users to access its content if they verify their age through Apple’s new device-based verification system, marking a reversal of its earlier ban on new UK users in February.
The adult entertainment platform, owned by Aylo, suspended new user registrations in the UK in February after the government introduced stricter child safety laws requiring proof of age. The company stated that device-based verification, enabled by Apple’s latest iOS 26.4 update, offers a more secure method for confirming users’ age than third-party verification sites. The new system is available exclusively on iOS devices and iPads, not MacBooks. Aylo has long advocated for device-based verification, claiming it provides stronger protections against minors accessing adult content. The company highlighted that Apple’s safety features for users under 18 are among the most robust currently available.
Why It Matters
This development is significant because it signals a potential shift toward more secure, device-based age verification methods in the adult content industry, which is facing increasing regulation worldwide. It also indicates that Pornhub is actively seeking ways to comply with UK laws while maintaining access for adult users. The move may influence other platforms to adopt similar verification technologies, impacting how online age restrictions are enforced globally.

Background
In July 2025, the UK introduced new child safety measures requiring adult websites to verify users’ ages using ID, face scans, or similar methods. As a result, Pornhub halted access for new UK users in February 2026, citing compliance challenges. Apple’s release of iOS 26.4 in May 2026 introduced a device-based age verification feature, which Pornhub now endorses. Prior to this, the company had urged tech giants to implement such verification systems, arguing they are more secure than web-based methods. The industry has seen increased regulatory pressure, with many US states passing or considering strict age verification laws that have led Pornhub to withdraw content from several regions.

What Remains Unclear
It remains unclear how many UK users will adopt the new system or if other platforms will follow suit. Details about the full scope of verification measures and whether this approach will be adopted outside the UK are still developing. Additionally, the effectiveness of the system in preventing minors from accessing adult content has yet to be independently verified.

What’s Next
Next steps include monitoring user adoption rates of the new verification system, assessing its effectiveness, and observing whether other adult platforms or regions implement similar device-based verification solutions. Regulatory bodies may also evaluate the system’s compliance and security implications in the coming months.

Key Questions
How does Apple’s device-based age verification work?
Apple’s system uses device safety settings, such as face recognition and other biometric checks, integrated into iOS 26.4 to verify users’ age directly on their devices, reducing reliance on third-party verification services.
Is this verification method available on all Apple devices?
No, it is currently available only on iOS devices and iPads running iOS 26.4, not on MacBooks or other Apple products.
Will Pornhub restore access for all UK users or only new users verified through Apple?
The company has stated it will allow new UK users to access content via Apple’s verification system, but it is not yet clear if existing verified users will have ongoing access or if the system will be expanded to all users.
